The photoelectric punched card reader uses a sprocket wheel drive from a stepping motor for card transport. The stepping motor (1) is mounted on a fixed back plate and carries a gear wheel (7) that meshes with a pinion (8) on a shaft carrying the drive sprocket (16). Other gears (9,10) drive a mechanical counter (9) that records the number of information tracks that have been passed. A limit switch (14) located at the side is actuated when the card is inserted when the reset (12) button or the counter is operated the motor is energised. A control circuit directs the operating cycle of the reader.
