A support member for a rack and pinion assembly comprising a housing (10) with a first bore (12) and a second bore (14) intersecting the first bore, a rack (26) movably disposed within the second bore (14), a pinion (22) having teeth meshing with teeth formed on the rack and being rotatably disposed within the first bore (12), the support member (50) cooperating with said rack (26) to bias the latter into meshing engagement with the pinion (22) said support member including a first arm (58) and a second arm (60) which extend into said first bore (12), the first and second arms being engageable with the wall of said first bore (12) to maintain said support member (50) in engagement with the rack. |
