Lactose prepn. from whey - using sugar factory equipment pref. protected against corrosion by adjusting raw material pH

Lactose is prepd. in a sugar, or saccharose factory, using standard sugar factory machinery or equipment. The raw material for lactose prodn. is pref. set to pH above 7, so that the sugar factory equipment is not exposed to corrosion. Sugar factory equipment, used for only 3 months a year in sugar mfr., can be adapted economically for whey processing to lactose.
