A position-independent angle measurement device with a digital display enables angles between non-abutting surfaces, e.g. in machines, workpieces and assemblies, of intermediate values to be accurately measured at moderate cost. A pendulam (1) mounted in a housing (5) so as to be free to rotate has a notched disc (2) attached to it whose notch location point coincides with the pendulam rotation axis centre point (3). A corresponding notched disc (4) attached to the housing is aligned with the pendulam disc but at a fixed distance. When the housing is tilted the two discs rotate w.r.t. each other. Their mutual rotation is converted into impulses which are counted to drive digital display. The disc attached to the housing consists of a fluid filled cuvette in which the pendulum is mounted.
