A double-headed heated tool for heating pipe ends has the temp. sensor located equidistant (a) from the working surfaces of each of the pipe heating tools, and (b) from a pair of sloping surfaces exposed to the local ambient conditions, including the impact of wind, draughts, rain etc. Used esp. for tools for joining thermoplastic pipes by fusion welding in the field. The temperature sensor responds to the effects of variations in ambient conditions imposed on the hot tool heads while they are exposed, to facilitate adjustment of the heater power to suit different conditions. |
