The internal combustion engine speed governor uses comparison of a voltage proportional to the engine speed against a set reference voltage proportional to the required speed, to electrically actuate a mechanical control of fuel or air to the engine. The AC tachogenerator gives an output voltage whose frequency is proportional to engine speed. This voltage is processed by a circuit giving constant amplitude pulses with a duration proportional to input frequency. These pulses are passed to an integrator which adds a triangular voltage waveform whose frequency is proportional to engine speed, to form a voltage related to the measured engine speed. To safeguard against hunting a lag compensator is placed between the reference and the feedback comparator. The error voltage output from the comparator drives a power amplifier which drives the mechanical actuator.
|
