The immersion thermocouple comprising a thermosensitive element is housed in a moulded protective tube. This eliminates the need for a ceramic cement filler to form a solid assembly and thereby reduces cost and time for manufacture. The thermocouple comprises two ceramic shells (1,2) made of a mixture of resin and foundry sand. Each shell has a semi cylindrical section (3) which has a flange (4) at the upper end and defines a housing (5) in the lower section for a plastic insertion (6) containing the electrical contact assembly complete with the thermocouple conductors. Each shell has a central flat surface to define the housing for a small protective tube (11) containing the thermocouple and for the wires connecting it to a measuring instrument. The protruding part of the tube containing the hot junction is protected by a metallic cover (14).
|
