The heat exchanger is made up from a plate with parallel tubes (2) along its entire length. The tubes are formed into the thickness of the plate. The tubes are joined at each end by a perpendicular header (3) which forms all the tubes at one end and the header (4) joining the tubes at the other. The plate is perforated (7) at regular intervals and rolled into a spiral, the headers remaining straight. The heat exchanger may be closed at the ends by the plate (6) to allow flow only across the tubes.
