Fixing of bit on milling cutter - uses cone bolt to lock split round block in gated socket and holding bit between block segments

The fixing secures a demountable square plaquette or bit (3) on the head (1) of a milling cutter, using a cone bolt (5) with locking segments (12,13). A nominally radial and circular flat bottom socket (2) opens out onto a head end face (1a), also communicating with a parallel blind bore (10) for the bolt. The socket locates two truncated half round segments (12,13) with the bit (8) on edge, the bit having a centre bore (3b) engaged by segment (12d,13d) studs. One segment (13) is notched (14) to follow bolt (5) head and neck barrel contours, the bit having trapezoidally recessed major faces (3a,3c) followed by the relevant segment faces. Segment with different notch positions may be used to vary the bit angle.
