Oil well blowout control - by large cylinder sunk in sea-bed around well for oil extraction

Blow-outs of oil wells, specially of offshore wells, are sealed off by a large cylinder, open at both ends, and with cutting edges at the bottom. An annular ram is reciprocated to drive the cutting edge in the sea bed. Connections on several levels permit pumps to extract the ejected oil until the pressure is reduced enough to close the top of the cylinder. This is a less risky method than the explosive method. It saves time and money compared with the method of drilling a relief hole for a blow-out.
