Liquid circulation in activated sludge basins - by hinged planar elements moving at speed of main flow

A device for the circulation of the liq. in activated sludge basins of biological sewage treatment plant is fitted with planar elements at right angles to the direction of the main circulation. The elements have almost the same size as the cross-sectional area of the flow channel and they are moved, pref. hinged to a mechanical drive, at the velocity of the main stream. This requires less power for starting so that smaller drives are needed. The system is applicable to all basin shapes and eliminates sludge deposits even at very slow speeds.
