The specification describes a preparation for the treatment of Herpes zoster and other Herpes infections, characterized by the fact that it contains as active principle pox and/or parapox virus (family: poxviridae) which, by .gamma.-irradiation, has suffered selective damage to its nucleic acids, without change or damage to the other structures of the virus, especially its surface structure, the virus protein and the substance of the outer sheath.
