Fuel transfer system esp. for liquid metal cooled reactor - has sealed chamber with travelling platform and guided wagons

A transfer system for nuclear fuel elements comprises a hermetically sealed chamber with passages through its floor into stores for new and used fuel elements and into a transfer chamber leading into the reactor. The hermetically sealed chamber contains a self-propelled travelling platform carrying a manipulator which drives for vertically movable handling tube and vertically movable grab inside the handling tube for core elements. The floor of the chamber has a guide track extending from the opening leading into the reactor region to the opening leading into the used fuel element store. A series of vessels can travel along this guide track for conveying nuclear fuel elements. These vessels, pref. constructed as wagons, are introduced into and removed from the store through a plugged, sealed opening. Used in particular for handling the elements of a liquid metal-cooled reactor, where the elements are passed through an intermediate chamber in their passage into and out of the reactor.
