<p>A width holding arrangement for handling sheet material consists of a stretching cylinder formed by a stationary central shaft supporting a flexible mantle or a number of tubular sleeves coupled together. The shaft is carried in pivoting bearings and thrusters act on the shaft ends, applying turning moments in the same or contrary direction round the corresponding bearings. It is thus possible to impart a curvature running in sinus form to the stretching cylinder. The arrangement is esp. applicable to weft straightening in piece goods processing since its sinusoid curvature allows it to deal with irregularities altering constantly.</p> |
