PURPOSE: To reduce cost by providing at least one reverse idler gear mounted on one range countershaft, which is so positioned as to be driven by the gear on one main countershaft and to drive one of the gears on the main shaft. CONSTITUTION: Reverse idler gears 160, 162 are mounted on countershafts 106, 108 respectively. The space between the plane containing each range countershaft 106, 108 and the plane containing each main countershaft 24, 26 is so selected as to mesh the reverse idler gears 160, 162 with the reverse drive gears 35, 41 on countershafts 24, 26. This is shown by the angle A between the plane containing each range countershaft 106, 108 and the plane containing each main countershaft. A main shaft reverse gear 56 is constantly driven due to the mesh of each range countershaft 106, 108 with the reverse idler gears 160, 162. In this case, independent reverse idler gear shaft is not needed, the space and cost in correspondence with it can be saved. |
