Flameproofing of fibrous materials (esp. textiles) is carried out by immersing the material in an aq. soln. contg. SbCl3 and a tert. amine to ppte. a water-insoluble Sb cpd. (esp. Sb2O3) on the material, with the improvement that an acid binder (I) comprising one or more bases and/or basic salts is added to the aq. soln. Addn. of (I) increases the amt. of Sb2O3 ppted. from a given amt. of SbCl3 and tert. amine.
