<p>Heat exchanger is for continuous cooling or warming of fluid prod. which is agitated as it passes through the exchanger. Heat exchanger is of the type comprising a vertical cylindrical vessel with the prod. inlet of outlet at the top and the other at the bottom. Rotary shaft on the vertical axis of the vessel is fitted with radial agitators to stir the prod. and the vessel contains tubular heat exchange elements which contact agitated prod. Agitators now take the form of a set of spaced, superimposed, horizontal, flat spirals of to be through which heating or cooling fluid is passed. The agitator spirals also serve as heat exchange elements. Spirals are pref. piped in series with connectors which lie alternatives close to the vessel wall and close to the shaft. Successive spirals are pref. wound in opposite directions. Heat exchanger is partic.
