MANUFACTURE OF GLASS FIBER REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC SYNTHETIC RESIN SHEET

PURPOSE:To obtain a synthetic resin sheet with smooth surface, free from unbalance in strength length wise and breadth wise and superior in mechanical strength by heating and pressurizing a mat consisting of an untwisted glass fiber flocculent material with thermoplastic synthetic resin powder sticked thereon. CONSTITUTION:A mat consisting of a discontinuous untwisted glass fiber flocculent material with thermoplastic synthetic resin powder sticked thereon dispersedly is kept pressurized until the air in the mat becomes inexistent totally or as a continuous pore, as heating or after heating it to a temperature at fusing point or softening point or over of the thermoplastic synthetic resin. It is then preferable to use a mat, in this case, consisting of 100pts.wt. of a thermoplastic synthetic resin powder 1mm. or below in particle size and 5-300pts.wt. of a discontinuous opening glass fiber 3mm. long or over. A strand obtainable through preparing several tens to several hundred pieces of glass single fiber and bundling the same with a paste of polyvinyl acetate and a roving obtainable through taking up the strands prepared further in several to several ten pieces are preferable for the glass fiber, which are cut to a given length for use.
