R' = H or methyl; R2 = C2-6 alkyl, C3-4 alkenyl or cyclopropyl; X = H or halogen), useful as herbicides, were prepd. by the reaction of II and III, by halogenation of Ia. Thus, 5 ml propionic anhydride and 2.52 g 3-amino-5-t-butylisoxazole were stirred at room temp. for 3 hr, and treated overnight at room temp. to give 2.91 g N-(5-t-butyl-3-isoxazolyl) propionamide.
