Chloroprene-PVC laminates - with interlayer of a mixt. of nitrile rubber and chlorinated polyethylene or PVC

Composite prods are composed of a layer of polychloroprene and a layer of PVC, with an interlayer comprising a mixt of an elastomer (I) and a polymer (II) which are inert w.r.t. the outer layers and resistant to the absorption of components from these. Pref interlayers are of a 1:2 mixt. of nitrile rubber and chlorinated polyethylene, or a 1:1 mixt of nitrile rubber and PVC. The laminates are pref made by laying up the layers in the uncured state and vulcanising the prod under heat and press eg at ca. 170 deg C to form the laminate. The prods. combine the good elasticity, abrasion resistance and heat resistance of the nitrile rubber with the relatively low price and weldability of the PVC. The combined interlayer gives excellent interlaminar adhesion. The prods. are useful eg as gasket materials, upholstery materials, insulation materials, etc.
