The plug and socket connector has centre electrode assemblies that in their disengaged position are electrically discontinuous, the electrode continuity only being achieved when the two connectors parts are properly mated. The design prevents damage to equipment etc. due to accidental short-circuiting etc. of the connector electrodes (3,9) in their un-mated condition. Internal connection of each electrode requires a min. of axial movement and is based on the use of a conducting sprung sleeve bridging an insulated gap (8) between the forward (9) and rear (6) sections of the two part electrodes. The interconnecting sleeve (11) bears an electrode halves at its end points only and moves axially within its surrounding insulating block (16) during coupling, one or more leaf springs (13) shaped to provide two bearing surfaces (14,15).
|
