Nuclear reactor absorber rod - contains absorber cylinder inside cylinder telescopically movable in outer cylinder

A gas-cooled high temp. reactor is equipped with absorber rods, each of which consists of at least two telescopic cylinders. The outer cylinder is either stationary or movable. The inner cylinder which is movable relative to the outer cylinder carries on its inside the absorber material. Both cylinders are open at both ends so that a coolant can flow through them. This creates an absorber rod design which is readily variable in length. Mounting and motion of the absorber rods in the reactor core or reflector bores requires no additional constructional elements.
