Coccidiostatic agents cotain (a) 1 pt. wt. 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidine (I) or a salt thereof; (b) 2-5 (esp. 3) pts. wt. 2,6-dimethoxy-4-sulphanilamidopyrimidine (II) or a salt thereof; and (c) 0.4-40 (esp. 4) pts. wt. 1-(4-amino-2-propyl-5-pyrimidinylmethyl)-2-picolinium chloride hydrochloride (III). The agents can be used for the treatment and prophylaxis of coccidiosis in poultry (chickens and turkeys), and are esp. active against Eimeria tenella, E.acervulina, E. brunetti and E. necatrix. They are also active against a wide range of pathogenic bacterial infections in poultry (e.g. Staph. aureus, E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pasteurella and Salmonella spp.) and can be used as growth promoters. The agents are pref. used as feed additives contg. 5-95 wt. % (I)+(II)+(III). The amt. of (I)+(II)+(III) added is pref. 35-200 ppm. |
