PURPOSE:To obtain a complete focusing effect of ultrasonic beam and to obtain a probe excellent in the directivity in which a side lobe is suppressed as much as possible by making respective oscillators the oscillators of diamond form and arranging in series so as to dispose short diagonal lines of the diamond forms on one straight line. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic oscillator 2 mounted on a support base 11 consists of the aggregation of the oscillators 22 of the diamond form arranged in series at the interval of an equal pitch along a Y direction of an axis of coordinate and the oscillators 23 of triangular form and on an ultrasonic transmitting/receiving surface, a protruding acoustic lens 3 is mounted. The oscillators 22 are aligned so as to set the short diagonal lines on the one straight line and the oscillators 23 are arranged so as to pad residual spaces between the adjacent oscillators. In this constitution, the directional function of the oscillator 22 is equal to the square of the directional function of the strip shape oscillator corresponding to a half of the dimension (a) of the diagonal line and accordingly, the side lobe appearing during a driving is remarkably made small. Further, when the driving pulse signal of an opposite phase to the oscillator 22 is applied to the oscillator 23, the focusing effect of the lens is increased, the side lobe is further suppressed and the directivity is remarkably improved.
