Poly(N-alkyl-imino-alanes prepn - by reacting metallic aluminium with primary amine in presence of hydrogen

Poly(N-alkyliminoalanes) useful as cocatalysts in the polymn. of olefins and diolefins, and as reducing agents for org. cpds. have the formula (HALER)n (where n is 3-50), and are prepd. by directly reacting (I) metallic Al with (II) a prim. amine, in the presence of (III) hydrogen. The single stage reaction does not require synthesis of an alanate; formation of by-prods. requiring removal, e.g. by filtration, is avoided; low hydrogen usage is obtd.; the prod. can be used directly for polymn.
