PURPOSE:To recognize the concavity and convexity of the peak point of an input polygon image by detecting the direction of the change of a quadrant in which two adjoining oriented components are directed at one peak point. CONSTITUTION:A logical operation circuit 1 successively inputs the coordinate value of respective peak points with a prescribed command sequence, executes the prescribed operation, further, detects a convex point and a concave point, decomposes them to a convex polygon or a triangle and after the decomposition, outputs the peak point coordinates of a graphic to a buffer 2. Only when the external host computer, etc., detect a buffer READY signal, they receive the data in the buffer 2. A CPU 3 of the logical operation circuit 1, concerning the oriented segment to constitute a polygon and chain, detects the quadrant in which respective oriented segments are successively directed concerning one direction, detects the direction of the change of the quadrant in which two adjoining oriented segments are directed at one peak point and judges the concavity and convexity of the peak point.
