The medical appts. includes a probe (1) contg. a loudspeaker (2) intended to be inserted in a patient's nostrils. The sound produced is picked up by a detector microphone in the patient's ear. The sound may be generated at 50 Hz, and then the received sound is filtered (5) and doubled in frequency (6). The signal is processed further and provides an input to the display counter (15,16). After resetting the counter to zero the signal provided is counted. The resulting figure is used to indicate the time for which the Eustachian tube is open during swallowing. The signal is checked by counting consecutive peaks. Pulse trains of less than a predetermined length are discounted. The appts. may be used to determine the open diameter of the Eustachian tube as well as the duration of opening.
|
