The method involves computing a rotary speed (nDB) of activating shifting elements (A,B) inside the gearbox from three gearbox-side rotary speeds (n1,n2,nX). On the basis of each computed rotary speed the respective gearbox-internal shifting element is activated. The concrete number of the gearbox-side measured rotary speeds depends on the number of the gearbox-internal shafts (3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), and also depends on the number of the transmission gears (11,12,13,14).
