摘要 1333958 Gasifying organic waste CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 21 April 1971 [5 May 1970] 10605/71 Heading C5E A-hydrogen- and carbon monoxide-containing gas is made by contacting a solid organic waste material containing combined oxygen and hydrogen, the oxygen comprising at least 10% b.w. and the waste material containing less than 5% b.w. sulphur, with steam at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst, which must be an alkali metal carbonate, oxide or hydroxide, or a Group VIII metal or a compound thereof. Typical organic feeds are sugars, cellulose, e.g. corn husks, agricultural industrial and municipal waste, sewage and sawdust. Temperatures are in the range 500‹ to 3000‹ F., but are preferably kept below 1600‹ F., and pressures range from 1 to 150 atmos., 4 to 20 atmos, being preferred. The feed and the steam, which may be preheated, are preferably fed in cocurrent to the top of the reactor, and oxygen, e.g. air, may be delivered thereto for partial combustion. The catalyst, which forms from 1 to 50% b.w. of the organic feed, may be mixed therewith before contacting it with the steam. Some product gas may be recycled for combusting in the reactor or in an external chamber, the combustion gases being passed to the reactor. The usual purifying and shift-conversion stages may succeed the reactor, and the gas may be centrifugally compressed before CO 2 -removal.
