An apparatus for aligning and positioning workpieces, in particular metal plates, on a horizontal support plane is described, in which a ball roller table is provided as a support plane, which ball roller table can be swivelled about at least one first axis parallel to one of its two longitudinal central axes in two directions out of its horizontal position by means of automatically functioning means, and which ball roller table has, at least on its sides parallel to the said axis, stop means for positioning the workpieces.
