The registration plate comprises a number plate (2) which covers the supporting backplate (1). This backplate is thicker and larger than the number plate and forms an edging all round the latter. The backplate is pierced by slots (5) at its required fixing points, the sides of the slots being pressed outwards to provide a seating (6). A countersunk head screw (4) is introduced into this slot and then held and secured by a self-adhesive wedge (9) inserted into this extension. The assembly is tightened onto a seal (10), using nuts (11) on the screws passing through the vehicle bodywork (3).
