Phytosterol glycosides were sepd. by hydrolysis of vegetable oil residues with alkali hydroxide in lighter alcohol, removal of the insol. matter, addition with H2O or hydrated lower alcohol, and keeping in 70-80% alcohol soln. Thus, 10kg soybean lecithin was heated with 2kg KOH in 201 MeOH(80%) for 2hrs, injected in 601 MeOH(80%), and kept at room temp. for 48 hrs. The solid was washed with MeOH contg. 2% acetic acid and recrystd. from pyridine to give 293g phytosterol glycoside.
