PURPOSE:To manufacture a nonflat silica cloth catalyst easily and with good productivity by a procedure in which a glass fiber woven cloth supported with a heat- resistant molding aid is baked, molded into a nonflat form, and then supported with a catalyst substance. CONSTITUTION:A molding aid, e.g., a solution of silica, alumina, aluminum hydroxide, etc., capable of binding with glass fiber when dried and baked and having excellent heat resistance, is supported on a glass fiber woven cloth. The glass fiber woven cloth so treated is fixed in a mold having a feeding ability, dried, baked, molded into a nonflat form, and then supported with a catalytic substance. For example, a flat form of a glass fiber woven cloth is dipped in a 5-20wt% silica colloidal solution, fixed in a mold, baked at 400-600 deg.C for 30-60min, and then molded into a nonflat form. Then, the glass fiber woven cloth so treated is supported with gamma-alumina, etc., to obtain a silica cloth support which is, in turn, supported with a catalyst substance, e.g., platinum, etc. |
