Peroral preparations of chloramphenicol consisting of a mixture of chloramphenicol with a low-viscosity neutral oil in soft gelatin capsules. Highly resorbable form of the broad-spectrum antibiotic chloramphenicol giving better serum levels than all other known oral formulations. Particularly suitable low-viscosity neutral oils are triglyceride mixtures of saturated fatty acids of moderate chain-length, e.g. 'Miglyol 812'. The chloramphenicol content of the capsules can vary, e.g. from 100-1,000 mg./capsule, but is pref. ca. 500 mg./capsule. The amount of oil should be such as to give an easily worked suspension, ca. 0.5-0.6 parts of oil to 1 part of chloramphenicol being sufficient. Small amounts of lecithin and wax mixtures are advantageously added. The soft gelatin capsules are manufactured in a conventional manner.
|
