Deep parts of sewage/sludge mixts. in activated sludge processes or of water in deep waters where the oxygen content is low can be aerated by an air ejector ring inside a cylinder, open at one or both ends. A zone below the air outlet holder is thereby kept at a vacuum which is used to draw fluid, low in oxygen content, or a mixt. of deposited activated sludge and sewage into the aeration zone. This is a more economical process for biological sewage treatment and less liable to breakdowns than mechanical pumps or mammoth pumps. It is a safe and reliable way in waterways of encouraging the expansion of the stock of fish.
