NEW MATERIAL:3-[ 7abeta-Methyl-5-oxo-1beta-( 1alpha-methyl-2-oxopropyl )-3aalphaH-hexahydroindan-4alpha-yl]propionic acid (hereinafter called IP) of formula. USE:Raw material for the synthesis of steroid-type medicines such as steroid hormones, or bioactive substance having similar structure to the above medicine. Agricultural microbicides effective remarkably to the gray-mold of vegetables and fruit trees. PROCESS:A mutant of bacteria belonging to Rhodococcus genus, such as Rhodococcus corallinus MCI-1164, wherein the IP-decomposing enzyme is eliminated or deactivated, is cultured in a medium containing steroles as substrates, and the cultured product is extracted with an organic solvent to obtain the objective IP. The sterole is e.g. sterole, its C-3 ester derivative, C-3 ether derivative, or their oxidation intermediates. |
