Frost inhibiting aggregate for roads other surfaces - where electrolysis sludge is impregnated with salt, silica flour, diesel oil, and hydrophobic silicon cpds.

The surface is formed esp. of a layer bonded by bitumen, and includes an aggregate consisting of grains below 0.1 mm size with 50-60 vol.% pores, and made of electrolysis sludge contg. known as red filler. In the pores of the red filler is a frost inhibiting agent such as NaCl or a similar material, on which hydrophobic Si cpds. are deposited. The aggregate may alternately consist of crushed synthetic stone bonded with polymers such as epoxy- or acrylic- resins; the aggregate may also be coated with oil. The pref. material contains all pts.wt., 10 red filler, 3 silica flour, 30 salt, 1 diesel oil, and 0.5 hydrophobic Si cpds. The salt is released over a long period of time; and there is no need to deposit sand or grit on roads made using the invention.
