PURPOSE:To obtian methyl acetate and methyl formate simultaneously in high selectivity, by the reaction of inexpensive methanol with a CO source or a synthetic gas using an Al catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The title compounds are obtained simulatneously by the reaction of methanol and CO (high purity is not necessary and synthetic gas can be used as it is) at 120-300 deg.C, preferably 150-280 deg.C, preferably in a solvent, e.g. dimethylacetamide, in the presence of an Al catalyst, e.g. Al powder, Al hydride, etc. The amount of the catalyst is 0.5-200mg atom, preferably 2-50mg atom, of Al to 1mol of methanol. The partial pressure of CO is 20-400kg/cm<2>G, preferably 50-300kg/cm<2>G. |
