PURPOSE:To enhance the cleaning effect and to extend the useful life of a membrane by cleaning a hydrophobic porous membrane of which properties are deteriorated by the staining of the membrane with an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:In an apparatus for separating volatile substances in an aqueous solution by gas diffusion through the layers of gases contd. in pores of a porous membrane into an aq. soln. which absorbs said volatile substances contacting therewith through a hydrophobic porous membrane, the hydrophobic porous membrane having deteriorated characteristics by the staining is cleaned with an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite, H2O2 or ozone to enhance the cleaning effect and extend the useful life of said membrane. When the stain extends into the depth of pores, it is effective to use an oxidizing agent along with a surface active agent and, after cleaning by an oxidizing agent; if said membrane is further washed with an acid such as hydrochloric acid or the like, the cleaning effect can be still more enhanced. |
