PURPOSE:To provide an ultraviolet ray intercepting agent having extremely high safety to the skin and capable of protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays, by using kojic acid as an effective component. CONSTITUTION:An ultraviolet ray intercepting agent obtained by dissolving kojic acid, e.g. in water or ethanol, or dispersing the acid in a proper oily substance in the presence of a surface active agent. The ultraviolet ray intercepting agent thus prepared may be added to cosmetics, ointment, etc. The amount of the agent to be added is 0.1-5wt%. Kojic acid can be prepared by the liquid culturing of kojic acid-producing fungi such as those belonging to Aspergillus genus, Penicillium genus, etc. Fermented foods such as ''miso'', soy sauce, ''sake'', etc. contains kojic acid as a tasting component. Therefore, the agent has extremely low toxicity, and is free from skin irritation and allergic activity. |
