<p>A shelving support system comprises an upright member (20) provided with a plurality of rhombic-shaped apertures (22) formed one above the other, each aperture (22) being oriented at 45 degrees to the vertical. Two of the plurality of apertures (22) engage a pair of tabs (26) of matching orientation protruding from a shelf support (24) to maintain locking engagement therewith when the support (24) is attached to the upright (20) in cantilever fashion. The 45 degree orientation of the apertures (22) enables the upright members (20) to be left and/or right-handed, since the reverse side of the apertures (22) is a mirror image, thus reducing the total number of individual components needed for system assembly. The strength of the shelf support system relies on the fact that oppositel directed forces act edge-on on the edges of the self locking tabs (26) in each aperture (22), in shear, insuring a very high overall system load capacity.</p> |
