<p>The electric goods-handling vehicle consists of a chassis with running gear, an electrical drive motor fed by accumulators housed in a box with a lid, and a driver's safety cage mounted on the chassis. The lid of the accumulator housing is hinged along an axis abutting one upper edge of the housing, and is provided with a balancing mechanism under the influence of which it may pivot about its hinged axis between its two extreme open and closed positions. The balance mechanism extends vertically to the exterior of the housing, slightly behind the hinge axis. The battery lid may be opened easily and at relatively constant velocity with the aid of the balancing mechanism, permitting removal of the batteries for servicing. The mechanism consists of a pneumatic cylinder connected to a cable which is attached via a pulley to the housing lid.</p> |
