The jaws of a tool for the production of boxes from hard PVC in the form of pretreated blanks, has ultrasonic wave generators for the welding of the overlapping surfaces, whilst the punch acts as the anvil for the ultrasonic welding. In addition to the punch, the tool has folders which set up the overlappings for pressing against the punch by the jaws. In the welding zones of the punch, the surface is raised esp. along the edges of the blank, which cover a small part of the overlapping surfaces. A device is provided which carries out the whole operation of folding and welding automatically from the presentation of the blank to the ejection of the finished box. The raised zones reduce the welding energy required and spot welding only may be used without weakening the boxes. Deep boxes are produced by a telescopic punch. |
