PURPOSE: A switch module is provided to improve a reliability and a maintenance characteristic by preventing a service interruption owing to a fail of a module during working a system. CONSTITUTION: A switch module comprises an x-point switch input module(205), an M*M asynchronous transfer mode switch fabric module(207) and an x-point switch output module(209). The x-point switch input module(205) selectively receives data from service interface unit(SUI), and has an x-point function. The x-point switch input module(205) transfers the selectively received data to the M*M asynchronous transfer mode switch fabric module(207). Data switched by the M*M asynchronous transfer mode switch fabric module(207)is outputted through the x-point switch output module(209).
