NOVEL PHENOLIC POLYMER, PRODUCTION THEREOF AND COLOR DEVELOPER FOR PRESSURE-SENSITIVE COPYING PAPER COMPRISING SAID POLYMER

PURPOSE:To obtain a phenolic polymer for a color developer for a pressure- sensitive copying paper not using formaldehyde, by bringing bisphenol A and bis(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)benzene into reaction with each other in a solvent. CONSTITUTION:Bisphenol A and bis(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)benzene are brought into reaction in a solvent to prepare a phenolic polymer of formula I, wherein B is a divalent bisphenol A residue obtained by removing two hydrogen atoms at ortho-positions relative to one of two hydroxyl groups of bisphenol A or by removing a total of two hydrogen atoms one of which is at the ortho-position relative to one of the two hydroxyl groups and the other is at the ortho-position relative to the other of the two hydroxyl groups, n is an average number of repeating units of 0.1-6, and the two isopropylidene groups in the repeating unit are connected to meta- or para-positions of the benzene ring.
