The hydraulically-operated lift comprises a piston with a rod working in a cylinder. The piston is completely enclosed in oil, there being a seal for its rod where it passes out of the cylinder, which is connected to a pressure pipe at the top and bottom ends. The hydraulic pump is connected in the pipe, so as to exert suction on one side of the piston as well as pressure on the other, thus economising in power consumption. A pressure gauge controls the current supplied to the electric motor driving the pump via an electronic unit, dependent on the demand.
