The holder detachably secures an impact and/or rotary tool to a portable machine, having a coupling sleeve transmitting torque and rotating with the driving member, and also movable slightly in the axial direction. Its other end accommodates the tool shank, which turns with it but likewise moves slightly in relation to it in the axial direction. The driving member acts directly on the shank so as to transmit axial blows. For use in conjunction with a tool (32) having an exhaustion passage (33) for drilling dust, the interior of the sleeve (11) is connected to a vacuum source (37), preferably a suction fan.
