The control valve of compact design uses an axially sliding cylindrical valve member (4) operated by fluid pressure. It has a valve body with a set of e.g. four flow channels (5a, b, 6a, b) in the same plane. These can be in two pairs at right angles to each other. The cylinder has a plain body portion (4) forming a surface which seals the four channels in one end position. After moving axially to the other end position, a groove (8) around the cylinder is in line with the channels, so as to connect them. The cylinder may incorporate channels through its body to form alternative connections between the other flow channels, and may move into more than two positions to form multi-way valves. The cylinder may also include grooves extending only part of the way round its surface, so as to interconnect selectively systems of flow channels.
|
