The tapered tip of a rod is disposed within a jet of a carburett or by displacing the rod the size of the opening through the jet is varied, displacement of the rod being effected by a pivotably mounted lever having an eccentric portion which is urged against the base portion of the rod by an actuator coupled to the lever by a cable. The actuator may comprise a laterally and vertically displaceable pedal and air throttle butterfly of the carburettor being actuated by vertical displacement while the rod is actuated by lateral displacement. The actuator may alternatively be a knob mounted on a control panel.
