PURPOSE:To control the molten metal level in a mold automatically high precision, by burying a temperature measuring element in the inner wall of a mold for continuous casting at a height where the molten metal level reaches the critical level of the mold when the output of temperature measuring indicates the maximum value. CONSTITUTION:A temperature measuring element 7 is buried in the inner wall of a mold 3 for casting, at a position lewer by H from critical level Lr. Molten metal detectors 14, 15 are disposed at a specified vertical interval in the mold 3, and when a molten metal 5 touches the lower detector 15, sampling command (i) and holding command (j) are input respectively in a sampling circuit 8 and a holding circuit 9, so that the corresponding outputs of the element 7 are held. When the molten metal 5 rises to touch the upper detector 14, the corresponding output of the element 7 is held. Next, a selector 16 is changed to the automatic operation side, and the molten metal level and reference level Lo are compared and processed in a comparator circuit 12, and, according to the absolute value of this difference, an opening or closing command 0 for a slide valve 2 or an accelerating or decelerating command (n) for a pinch roll 4 is output from a molten metal amount control device 13, so that the molten metal level may be always maintained at reference level Lo. |
